What is the ACP ThinManager TermSecure Add-On?
TermSecure is an ACP ThinManager add-on that increases security and application publishing control on ACP ThinManager Thin Client Networks.
The TermSecure feature is used to limiting or granting access to programs based upon user privileges assigned in the ThinManager environment. Secure Access is achieved either through manual login with a keyboard or by use of a 2-factor method with RFID cards and card readers.
Applications can be assigned to an individual user that can be accessed from any terminal the user is authorized for by using their TermSecure login. This allows a roving person like maintenance, quality control, or supervisors to get their applications from where ever they are logged on. TermSecure is another layer of protection to your system in addition to your Windows layer of protection. Term Secure allows users to logon to a ThinManager Ready thin client and access terminals and Application Groups only if the TermSecure User has been assigned to the same Access Group.
There are two types of applications or permissions, a Terminal-specific application and a User-specific application. To better understand the two let’s start with examples of who would use which application.
Example #1 – Tying the Application to the Terminal
A ThinManager Ready thin client is on the plant floor for station #5 which is running a Recipe Program. You control access to the Recipe application with TermSecure so that only people with supervisor level security can change it. The plant floor supervisor who is a TermSecure user has the ability to go to station 5’s thin client, logon (which passes his credentials to the HMI) and initiate a product change to that recipe program. The plant floor shift workers for station #5 do not have the same permission so they cannot initiate the change and in the HMI – these options are typically grayed out. This layer of protection helps to protect that station’s productivity and give more control over what is happening on a day to day basis.
Example #2 – Tying the Application to the User
A Maintenance Manager needs to go in between three different ThinManager Ready thin clients throughout the plant. Instead of carrying a laptop to start at each location he can use TermSecure to have his session (and subsequent published applications) follow him to each thin client terminal. When he logs in, his session view will reconnect along with the application he is working at that time at the application’s current state, saving him time from having to go back and forth from a dedicated workstation. Once he logs off or walks away his session disconnects.
TermSecure allows the movement of the display of a TermSecure User’s terminal server sessions between multiple ThinManager Ready thin clients; initiated by either manual login or the use of an authentication device; such as, RFID card or card reader. This allows a user to leave one terminal, logon to a different terminal, and reconnect to their session, essentially having the session follow him from terminal to terminal.
