Wonderware Releases Enhanced, Unified Software Solutions

On May 20, 2008, Wonderware announced the release of new software solutions that are designed to enable customers to better address critical issues in manufacturing operations. These enhanced software solutions include Wonderware Operations Software 3.4 and Wonderware Performance Software 3.4. They are evolutions of the Factelligence offerings from the acquisition of Cimnet, an MES software company integrated into Wonderware in 2007.

The new software applications offer enhanced integration with Wonderware’s System Platform and InTouch HMI Software, which provide a common and strategic industrial application services platform on top of virtually any existing system. The applications are built on the industry-standards based ArchestrA real-time service-oriented architecture (SOA) technology. This integration provides a comprehensive MES (manufacturing execution system), EMI (enterprise manufacturing intelligence), HMI (human-machine interface) and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) solution using a single, unified software platform.

Customer investments in today’s plant software solutions can be leveraged as future operations management needs evolve, such as from a single machine HMI implementation to a supervisory plant solution or to a larger multi-plant MES and EMI roll out.

“These new unified software solutions are designed to help manufacturers reduce inventory costs and improve production order lead time for rapid responses to changes in demand, as well as increase the capacity of existing assets through improvements in asset utilization,” said Claus Abildgren, marketing program manager for Wonderware. “A key aspect of this integration is to empower production workers to become leaders in continuous improvement efforts by having real-time production information at their fingertips.”

Wonderware Operations Software 3.4 is offered in two editions including Standard and Premium, with each edition providing incremental levels of MES functionality. The editions support customers requiring a scalable MES approach that allows them to start with fundamental ROI, and easily evolve the solution as they progress on the path toward operational excellence.

Wonderware Performance Software 3.4 is a component of Wonderware’s EMI offerings that include new features for tracking an unlimited number of reasons for equipment downtime, as well as unlimited calculations of overall equipment effectiveness. Both software offerings provide an evolutionary path for existing Wonderware users, and can work on conjunction with a customer’s other software applications.

The integration of these new operations and performance offerings with the Wonderware System Platform and InTouch software provides logical data models for plant equipment and production activities, the ability to define reusable templates for key operational functions and intuitive user interfaces via a wide range of powerful Microsoft .NET controls that work inside of InTouch and other visualization applications.

BradCommunications Releases Modbus Serial and Modbus TCP Network Interface Modules for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix

BradCommunications SST Modbus Serial and Modbus TCP network interface modules provide a fast and easy way to connect Modbus networks to Allen-Bradley ControlLogix systems.

When the ControlLogix processor combines with the SST module, users benefit by quickly and easily being able to communicate with Modbus and Modbus TCP in a reliable and effective manner.

These SST modules are available in two versions.

The SST-SR4-CLX-RLL module offers four independent RS232/RS485 serial ports operating as master or slave Modbus protocols that support ASCII and RTU formats.

The SST-ESR2-CLX-RLL module provides two serial ports – using the same features as the SST-SR4-CLX-RLL – and an Ethernet port executing Modbus TCP (UDP and IP) protocol in both client and server modes simultaneously.

The modules are quick to implement in a control application, as the SST modules enable the sharing of process I/O data directly with the ControlLogix processor’s memory without writing any ladder logic. The configuration setup to exchange data between the Modbus and Modbus TCP devices and ControlLogix is accomplished though the use of a Windows software console that supports the Allen-Bradley Remote Link Library (RLL) feature, which allows remote monitoring and downloading changes to the network configuration.

Advantech Launches High Availability Serial Device Servers

Advantech introduces the EKI-1521 and EKI-1522 Serial Device Servers, which allow RS-232/422/485 serial devices to be remotely monitored, managed, and controlled over Ethernet and Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Equipped with dual 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports and dual Media Access Controllers (MACs), these innovative devices ensure data transmission even in the event of a network link failure.

Dual Ethernet LAN Redundancy

With redundant Ethernet connections, communication is not interrupted in the event of a network problem. With one connection automatically assigned as primary and the other as backup, loss of the primary connection initiates an immediate and automatic switch-over to the backup, ensuring data integrity and peace-of-mind.

Advanced Multi-Access Functionality and Low-Latency Processing

The EKI-1521 and EKI-1522 offer a number of conventional operating modes that allow connections to be initiated by either attached serial devices or remote Ethernet hosts using both UDP/IP and TCP/IP protocols. For applications beyond simple point-to-point connections, two new multi-access modes allow one-to-many and many-to-one connections. The first allows up to five Ethernet hosts to access a single serial device and the second allows a single serial device to simultaneously send data to as many as 16 Ethernet-connected hosts.

In addition to these exciting new features, serial transmission speeds have been increased to 921Kbps, allowing a much broader range of serial devices to be network enabled. More importantly, optimizations in serial to Ethernet handling have yielded an ultra fast round-trip latency of less than 10 milliseconds where network traffic is not an issue, allowing the use of timing-sensitive serial protocols and increased polling rates.

For more information on the EKI-1521, the EKI-1522, or any other Advantech product, please contact your InSource Solutions I2 Infrastructure Specialist or the marketing department at marketing@insourcess.com.

World's First Fault-Tolerant, High Availability Software for Server Virtualization Now Available!

Marathon Technologies Releases New everRun Software to Help Companies Virtualize a Broader Range of Applications; Making HA and DR Practical for Mid-market Companies

On April 30, 2008, Marathon Technologies Corporation announced the general availability of everRun VM, the world’s first fault-tolerant, high availability software for server virtualization. With the release of everRun VM, Marathon is eliminating one of the major barriers to broader server virtualization adoption – the lack of reliable high availability for virtual servers – and providing customers with the assurance that critical data, networks, and applications will be protected in virtual server environments. The unique benefits of everRun VM’s approach enables companies to:

      • Prevent outages and data loss in their virtual infrastructures
      • Bring server virtualization's cost and energy saving benefits to business critical and other production appications
      • Deploy high availability and disaster recovery protection across the company - especially mid-market companies with no protection today

Citrix XenServer is a dynamic virtualization software platform that virtualizes application workloads across any number of servers in the datacenter as a flexible aggregated pool of computing resources. EverRun VM is the world’s first automated, fault-tolerant, high availability software for server virtualization that is integrated with Citrix XenServer. The combination of Citrix XenServer high-performance, easy-to-use virtualization hypervisor with the proven automated availability of Marathon’s everRun software enables more enterprises to deploy virtualization across a much broader array of applications.

EverRun VM leap-frogs other high availability offerings for server virtualization by delivering the five industry firsts:

      • First fault-tolerant, high availability software for virtual servers – everRun VM provides fault-tolerant protection without the use of specialized hardware. The fault-tolerant redundancy of everRun VM ensures no outages and zero data loss. Companies can reliably run production applications in virtual machines and gain virtualization benefits across a much broader range of applications.
      • First fully automated HA solution for virtual servers – everRun VM has completely automated setup, configuration, fault detection, and policy management. The software is fully deployable in 30 minutes or less. Through automation everRun VM removes the traditional availability burden for IT professionals and brings high availability and disaster recovery to mid-market and Fortune 500 remote facilities.
      • First availability software that allows availability to be selected by VM – Administrators have the ability to dial-in different availability levels - from true high availability and fault tolerance to disaster recovery and remote availability – based on specific application requirements. Companies only pay for the protection needed and get the best price and performance.
      • First geographic fault-tolerance software – everRun VM goes beyond local server-level protection by enabling fault tolerance between geographically disperse locations to maintain system availability through major outages. Production applications running in virtual machines are available even when the entire data center is down. Compliance and production requirements are met even through a disaster.
      • First availability software designed and priced for broad adoption – everRun VM is the first software that combines the availability benefits of server virtualization with simple automated availability software. Companies can now afford to protect applications they aren’t protecting today.

“We’ve received an overwhelmingly positive response from beta customers and partners about the business and IT benefits that can be realized from everRun VM,” said Gary Phillips, president and CEO of Marathon Technologies. “The general availability of everRun VM means that companies can now reliably run high-value applications in virtual machines and gain the cost of savings of server consolidation across a much broader range of applications. And because everRun VM completely automates setup and maintenance, we expect our customers will be able to significantly reduce their IT resource and operating costs.”

With over 1800 global customers, Marathon is the world’s first and only provider of fault-tolerant, automated, high availability and disaster recovery software for physical and virtual servers. Marathon’s everRun software prevents outages and data loss – without IT intervention. Organizations using everRun achieve uninterrupted availability, 100% data protection, and rapid recovery – all through “one-click” operation.

Your company may qualify for a free 15 day trial of everRun VM software. For more information on everRun VM software, the free 15 day trial, or any other Marathon product, please contact your InSource Solutions I2 Infrastructure Specialist or the marketing department at marketing@insourcess.com
