ACP ThinManager History - 10 Years of ThinManager
When it comes to ACP ThinManager—some things just get better with time!
Since its introduction in 1999 ThinManager has undergone a number of improvements. Below is a summary:
ThinManager 3.2 (July 2008) - Terminal to Terminal Shadowing and Session Ti
ling were the biggest changes in 3.2. Session Tiling allows multiple sessions to be displayed at the same time on a single Thin Client screen. This version also allows users to connect to a Terminal Server console session.
ThinManager 3.1 (June 2007) - Enhanced configuration support for MultiMonitor allows each screen to be independently configured with regard to resolution, spanning location or session mapping. Support for Redundant Ethernet Thin Clients and a Watchdog timer were also added, along with HTML reports detailing the Thin Client network's operation and past history. 3.1 also added Mirrored Licensing to allow for Redundant ThinManager Licenses at 50% of the cost.
ThinManager 3.0 (April 2006) - In 3.0 ThinManager moved to an SQL database for greater scalability and increased event data storage. 3.0 also simplified navigation with an improved tree structure, added more graphing features, and introduced Event Logging. Thin Client Shadowing was given a configurable ask / warn option and support was added for dual touch screens, along with improved touch screen calibration. 3.0 also introduced configurable ThinManager security groups, Event Logging and client scheduling and disabling. Configuration time was reduced by adding a Terminal restart without requiring a reboot and a synchronization feature that links and maintains redundant ThinServers automatically. A MultiSession screen saver was added to allow an unattended client to flip through all its sessions. A new product, TermSecure, was also introduced.
ThinManager 2.6 (February 2005) - 2.6 brought WinTMC, ACP's "fat client" module that allows a Windows-based PC to be managed through ThinManager. It also added MultiCast so multiple clients can boot using one network data stream, graphical trends of memory and CPU load of any Terminal Server and real-time ranking of Terminal Servers within a SmartSession group.
ThinManager 2.5 (March 2004) - Big changes for 2.5 included SmartSession (Terminal Server load balancing), MultiSession (one client, many sessions) and a feature ACP calls AppLink which can limit a client to a single application, hiding the Windows Desktop. 2.5 was also the first version with Enterprise (unlimited) Licensing for all client types, Thin Client Shadowing, and Terminal Server Grouping. ACP also picked up support for Microsoft's RDP protocol and added USB keyboard, mouse and flash drive storage support.
ThinManager 2.4 (May 2003) - Configuration Wizards lets administrator use computer directed "wizards" to walk through complex configuration tasks without missing a step, and a new Tree view shows which Windows Terminal Server is hosting each Thin Client. 2.4 allowed multiple monitoring connections to redundant ThinManager Servers so an administrator could run the ThinManager software on multiple machines. With 2.4 users could also import and export their system configuration and assign names to Terminal Servers.
